PsychedeLiA’s Shamanic Practices workshop series hosts medicine people who share about the historical background, contemporary practices and integration of natural, indigenous psychedelics. The workshop is presented in an informative, interactive and intimate salon-style evening. The event is open to all who are interested in furthering their education on the safe uses of entheogens.
Right Relationship & Working with Rapé Medicine: A Shamanic Practices Workshop with Jon DeRosa
Rapé (pronounced rah-PAY or HAH-pay), is a blend of sacred, medicinal plants, seeds, leaves, trees and other ingredients, often containing a strong jungle tobacco known as Mapacho, and used by various tribes indigenous to the Amazon in Brazil and Peru. During the rapé ritual, the powdery blend is blown into the nostrils by means of a special pipe, traditionally made of bamboo or bone.
Although rapé is often thought of as a medicine used within the context of other plant medicine ceremonies, it can be an equally powerful medicine when used on its own. It can be useful in pinpointing the source of stuck energies or traumas, and can also be used as an integrative practice before/after medicine sessions. Some benefits include a deepening of meditative practices, clearing of heavy energy and lighter physical feeling, and release of anxiety and stress. It is a legal substance in the US.
This educational workshop will host Jon DeRosa, who will provide information about the cultural background of Rapé, various types, substance components, traditional uses in and out of ceremony, and the idea of being in right relation with the medicine. Proper techniques for administration to self and others will be demonstrated. Jon will also share his own journey working with rapé, and quality handcrafted rapé pipes (Tepi and Kuripe) and blends will be available for purchase.

Jon DeRosa is a practitioner of Somatic Healing and PNE (Psychoneuroenergetics) and the founder of Somatic LA (www.somaticLA.com). He arrived at this healing modality after working for many years as a practitioner of Peruvian shamanic healing, and after having completed traditional plant diets in the Amazon, as well as extensive shamanic study and apprenticeship here in the US. One of Jon’s primary concentrations is working with rapé. In 2015, he founded HanaqPacha (www.hanaqpachaLA.com) offering handcrafted rapé pipes as well as other unique handmade and imported findings from Peru and beyond. Jon feels it's an honor to be able to bring this medicine to more and more people, though acknowledges that in doing so there comes a responsibility to educate as well and is grateful for the opportunity to do so here. He will have items from his shop, many of which he handmade himself, available for purchase.
